Nursing Assistant - Long Term Care (Evening Class)

The purpose of this program is to prepare students for employment as nursing assistant/nurse aides in nursing homes, or to provide supplemental training for persons previously, or currently employed in these occupations. Those students who satisfactorily complete this approved course are eligible to apply to take the national nursing assistant examination being utilized in Florida, in accordance with Chapter 464.203, F.S.

The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) gives direct patient care such as bathing, feeding, dressing, and assisting with mobility. The CNA must be able to communicate effectively in English, be able to see and hear adequately, and be able to engage in physically demanding work for 8-12 hours at a time.

The content includes, but is not limited to, interpersonal skills, medical terminology, legal and ethical responsibilities, safe and efficient work, gerontology, nutrition, health and safety including Cardio-pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and employability skills.

·      Spring Session:  January 25, 2018 – May 17, 2018

·      Classes and Clinical are held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, from 5:00 pm- 9:00 pm

·       Nurse Aide & Orderly:  course is 120 hours in length

Admission Requirements

·      Prospective students must be 17 years of age or a high school graduate or its equivalent, by the first day of class.

·      Due to Occupational Safety and Health Administration regulations, all students doing direct patient care must either have immunization against hepatitis B or sign a declination statement that he/she chooses not to protect himself/herself from this disease. Vaccination total cost to the student will be approximately $175.

·      A two-step skin test for TB is due one week prior to the start of class.

·      All Health Science Education programs require applicants to obtain a drug screen and Level 2 background screen due one week prior to start of class. .

·      Prospective students are required to schedule an appointment with our Admissions Office prior to enrollment.

Accreditations, Licenses, Certifications

• Our Nursing Assistant program has been approved by the Florida Board of Nursing.

• After successful completion of the program, students receive a certificate of completion and become eligible to apply to take the Florida Certified Nursing Assistant Exam. This certification is required to gain employment at Lee Health and other health care facilities, when working as a CNA (Certified Nursing Assistants).

• Certifications awarded after successful completion of the program are:

· Cape Coral Technical College Certificate of Completion -  Nursing Assistant Long Term Care

· American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Provider Course.
